A timeless story - Man and His Dog

I managed to squeeze one more out of those shots I mentioned in my last post. I didn't think this one would work but I was determined to give it a go as it was quite promising.

Man and His Dog

I was really drawn by the way Mans' face was hovering in the light just above Willow's head as he watched her posing — his expression was perfect for it.

I had to fight again with camera shake and noise - ISO 1600, f4 1/15th second but I think I've just about coped with it ok in the digital darkroom. What do you think?

Man and His Dog

This is Willow, owner of her human master, Mans. She really is a gorgeous dog, alert, adorable, sort of obedient but a bit slow on the uptake sometimes!

I'd love to hear from any other folks owned by Pomeranians out there :) So don't be shy, say "hello"!

comments / critique / feedback / tweets / buzzes always welcome :)

Great photo Mark. Love the way the mans face doesn't dominate the photo and what a gorgeous dog.

Love the photo and the mans face Mark.

Dare I say -lol - what would the face look like on the left hand side.

Yes, she is indeed gorgeous! The shot is pretty challenging and the result is stunning. Getting a pomeranian to pose for the shot is quite a task; I know, because our family is also owned by a pom... Well done!

Thanks everyone. @Dors, yes it's all about balance. On my laptop screen it seems a little bright but on my "tuned" monitor you can hardly see any background and his face seems to float more.

I'm not sure who the portrait photographer was, but I remember being struck by her/his approach to the shots of famous folk: very dark, face deep in shadows, with just enough contouring light to pick out the main features. It was that sort of thing I was after in this shot. It was all about the relationship between Mansour (Mans) and his dog, and how much emotional feeling he has invested in it.

@imac: Hey Stewart, good to see you here again :) It's a thought, having everything flowing from left to right - but Mans is Iranian and for him there's a more natural flow from right to left. (I only thought of that after thinking about your suggestion, hehe!).

@Serge: What's got your family? A boy or a girl pom?

I'm glad I managed to get something of Willow's beauty :) Struggling in the digital darkroom teaches a lesson about doing more in-camera, i.e. in this case not forgetting to check the batteries for my flash!!

Spectacular and beautiful picture,

@ Highton-Ridley: He-he, it's a girl-pom, appropriately named Lady. She firmly believes that she is of some royal rank or lineage, and carries herself accordingly...

Thanks for your visit and comment, Leovi - I'm glad you liked it!

@Serge - "Lady" is a great name for a pom. I can almost see her parading around her palace with her airs and graces :)
